Five shellac records each melted down into paste and reconstituted into roughly a square. On each card the original information about the record is written: Titles, artist, label catalogue number.
The records were given for the project by Andreas Schmauder, keeper of one of the biggest collections of shellac records in Europe (approx 200,000 records). Mr Schmauder kindly dug the broken pieces out of his rubbish bin.
The mounted shellac squares were shown with bright tube lighting in the manner of a scientific specimen or industrial material sample rather than a painting.
Made during the Global Forest 2017 residency at Sankt Georgen im Schwartzwald and exhibited there July to December 2017.
